My mother was a professional seamstress; however, she didn’t teach me a thing about sewing, except that she didn’t have the patience to teach a girl who always asked (still asks), “Why?” ... She did make the point perfectly clear that 1 zillion pins is required for any DECENT finished product to turn out right. Uh, I prefer to “eyeball” stuff and pin stuff here and there. I think that’s why all the shirts I made for myself ended up with lopsided, too-narrow sleeves! I never took sewing too seriously and, instead, used to play at my mom’s sewing machine, pretending I was racing along ROADS, the foot pedal was “really” a GAS pedal! I dreamed of the day I would become a stock car racer! (I actually considered it during my high school years!)
My first sewing project was a pillow case which I accomplished at about age 13. Since then, I’ve ventured out to try my hand at things like SIMPLE costume making, curtains/valances, little girls’ nighties, cloth books for baby fingers, cloth fitted diapers, simple skirts for my (back in the day when they were children) daughters, hair accessories and have become satisfied with the many baby layettes I’ve finished. I love making/cuddling with/gifting blankets and quilts to my favorite people. Enjoy the photos.
